TV Presenter, Matthew Walker hosts Charity Boxing Nights Live 2021

TV Presenter, Matthew Walker hosts Charity Boxing Nights Live 2021.

Charity Boxing Nights (@charityboxingnights) Live was founded in 2015 by Ric Moylan (@ricmoylan) to raise money and awareness for The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at St Mary's Hospital. To date, the event has raised over £250,000.

In 2017, I was brought on board as the Master of Ceremonies. My key responsibility as MC was to introduce the fighters before each contest and liaise with the judges and referee to announce the final winner. Based on my performances, I was thrilled when the organisers asked whether I would like to take over as the main host.

Against the backdrop of Covid which sadly meant Charity Boxing Nights Live could not go ahead in 2020, this year, the event was destined to be bigger and better than ever. Ric, Jordan and the team had worked tirelessly for months the ensure every last detail was perfect, so stepping out into the ring for the first time in 2 years, the pressure was on and the adrenaline pumping. I needn’t have worried. As soon as the words, ‘Welcome to Charity Boxing Nights Live’ left my lips and reverberated through the speakers at Vermilon, Manchester (@vermilion.uk), the 500 strong crowd erupted with support and love for this incredible event.

From there on in, the 2 night double bill was electric! The generosity from business’s and individuals around Manchester meant that over the course of 2 nights, we raised over £40,000 in the live charity auction. Combined with the money raised online before the event, in total, the event raised over £90,000 for The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at St Mary's Hospital.

The passion, desire and laser focussed work ethic from Ric Moylan, Jordan Walker (@jordan_connectin) and everyone connected with the Charity Boxing Nights Live to help others less fortunate is truly something to be admired. Long may this wonderful event continue.

Special thanks to Penni and Dave at Connectin Events (@connectinevents) for their continued support. Maureen and Lynne from Vermilion (@vermilion.uk) for their kind hospitality, incredible service and exceptionally high standards. Paul Shannon and everyone at ANS Group (@ansgroupuk) for their unwavering support and generosity. Our CBN21 ambassadors, Catherine Tyldesley (@auntiecath17), Kath Eaton, Paul Shannon and Mr Scott Quigg (@scottquigg). Mickey and the team from Gravity Live (@gravitylive) for their stunning visual performances. Beautiful Alex Borowicz (@alex_borowicz) for bringing a touch of glamour to the ring. Matthew, Shona and Alex at Cosmic Joke (@cosmic.joke) for making us all look the bollocks on film and Tom (@tompitfieldphotography) & Ant (@antclausen) for always capturing our good side. Joe, Greg and Chris on sound, visual and special effects. Our officials, Ash, Josh, Dominic, Scott and Hayley. Our medics, Keesha and Rachel. Alan on security and of course, the man who put the Oooo in cool, referee, Mr Bobbi Joe Edwards (@bobbijoeedwards). Not forgetting, Chris Ingram (@chrisingramrally), Scott Quigg, Ricky Hatton (@rickyhitmanhatton) and the many businesses in and around Manchester who generously contributed their talents and services to our charity auctions.

Finally, congratulations to all our fighters!
